Electrical System

To ensure a comfortable and safe experience, please take a moment to review the following information about our electrical system.

Power Supply

Voltage: The electrical system in Switzerland operates at 230 volts and 50 Hz.
Plugs and Sockets: The plugs are Type J, with three round pins. If you are using devices from another country, you may need a plug adapter.

Electrical Panels

Main Electrical Panel: Located in the garage before the stairs. This panel contains circuit breakers for the entire house.
Subpanels: There may be additional subpanels for specific areas like the kitchen or living area.

Circuit Breakers

How to Reset new Breakers: If a breaker trips, locate the main panel, find the breaker that is in the “off” position, and switch it back to “on”.
How to Replace old Breakers: many Breakers are still old ones that can’t be reset but have to replaced. You can find replacement Breakers on top of the electrical board. Please note the different colors and powers.
Labeling: Each breaker is labeled to indicate the area or appliance it controls. If a breaker continues to trip, please contact us immediately.
In order to avoid tripped breakers do not overload the electrical system. Especially too many electrical appliances used at the same time in the same room may cause an overload and trip the Breakers. This happens mainly in the kitchen when appliances like dishwasher, water kettle, microwave and heating plates or oven are used at the same time.

Safety Tips

Do Not Overload Circuits: Avoid plugging too many high-power devices into a single outlet or several sockets in the same room.
Keep Dry: Do not use electrical devices with wet hands or near water sources.
Unplug When Not in Use: To save energy and for safety, unplug devices when they are not being used.
Inspect Cords and Plugs: Do not use any device if the cord or plug appears damaged.

Lighting

Types of Bulbs: The house uses LED bulbs. Spare bulbs are available in the utility closet.
Switches: Most rooms have wall switches near the entrance. Some lamps have switches on the cord or the fixture itself.

Heating System

Electric Heaters: If provided, use the thermostats to control the temperature. Avoid covering heaters and ensure they have adequate ventilation.
Underfloor Heating: Controlled by thermostats located in each room. Please do not adjust the temperature and do not switch off the thermostats in the bedrooms. Let us know if you want to adapt the temperature, we can remotely adjust the settings. Thank you.

Safety for Kids

Old Power Sockets: Please note that the power sockets in our home are from the 1960s and do not have the modern safety features found in newer homes. The holes are easily reachable.
Supervision: Always supervise children around electrical outlets and devices to ensure their safety.

Energy saving tip

Turn of all lights when you leave the apartment and at night. Don’t leave the electrical hot air heaters in the bathroom ON for too long, they consume a lot of energy. Use them before and during your shower.

Always fill the dishwasher before running it.

Boil hot water with the hot water kettle and not on the stove.
